Happy Birthday Isla!!
This weeks blog post features the cake, cupcakes and cards I
made for my cousin’s gorgeous daughter Isla!
Isla turned 4 recently and I’ve had the privilege of making
all her birthday cakes so far! My throwback post this week will feature Isla’s
previous cakes :)
For this year’s cake I was asked to make a Rapunzel dress cake built around a Rapunzel doll. My mum used to make these kind of cakes me and my cousin when we were young, I remember her cooking the ‘dress’ in a pudding bowl and her cutting a doll in half to use on top of the cake!! I used a slightly different technique so Isla could keep her doll afterwards!! I made 2 6” deep chocolate cakes for the dress and carved the top into a dress shape. I have several pictures from different stages of the cake; I may make a more in depth post about the cake construction at a later date!
I also made 12 matching cupcakes! I hope you'll agree they tie in with the theme beautifully!
Next up is Isla’s cards, I made 2, one from us and one from
my parents. They both use the number of year’s framelits from Stampin’ Up! – Such
a useful set to have in your kit!!
The first card used mint macaroon as its main colour, I LOVE
this colour!! It has some birthday blooms paper behind and is finished off with
some glitter ribbon, sadly the paper and ribbon are discontinued :( I loved them both!
The second card features cherry on top paper and decorative
dots embossing folder which are also discontinued :( but I’ll continue to use them
anyway!!
Hope you liked my makes; I’ll make a more in-depth cake post
soon!
